Greetings and Salutations,
A close friend sent the following email. I thought I would share it with my readers. I believe that politicians no longer represent the interests of the majority of American Citizens.

"Last week, in speaking to the head librarian at the library about our mutual discontent with the recent nationwide elections, she gave me this quote yesterday that you might find interesting reading: It was written by H.L. Mencken published in the Baltimore Sun paper on July 26, in1920! He wrote as follows about the difficulties of good men reaching national office..."
"The larger the mob, the harder the test. In small areas, before small electorates, a first-rate man occasionally fights his way through, carrying even the mob with him by force of his personality. But when the field is nationwide, and the fight must be waged chiefly at second and third hand, and the force of personality cannot so readily made itself felt, then all the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre-the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.
The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron." H.L. Mencken
D. R. continues:
"In our talk we concluded that we experienced that happening with the election of our former president (with thanks to the Supreme Courts interfering decision). If the Democrats cannot "get their act together" and become more assertive, outspoken, etc., we will continue to see a decline and ineffectiveness in Congress. There are too many right wing folks being voted in who do not believe in global warming, evolution, the rights of women, etc. etc. etc. So very disheartening; how do we keep a positive attitude when the majority of folks are willing to vote in such fools?
More of the same in the 2016 presidential race. We just experienced that in these past national state wide elections."
Mencken's words are so applicable today...Any comment?
Until we meet again,
Grandma Meg
